There are several differences between computer security and information security.

Security

The first difference is the security of the two. The computer security specialist is going to be safeguarding your cyberspace from anyone who is not authorized to have digital access to it. In other words, it is going to be protecting all of your data that is in the electronic form. But the information security is more about protecting the information assets from someone who is not authorized to have access to those assets.

Value

The second difference is the value of the data. With both of them, the value of the data is going to be a very important component. In computer security, the main concern is going to be on safeguarding the information of the computer and the security technologies from anyone who is not authorized getting digital access to it. This is going to include all of the things that can be accessed through the cyberspace. But the information security is just going to be about protecting the information assets of the company from any type of threat that could happen.

Professional

The third difference is security professionals that you are going to need to hire for the company. When it comes to a computer security specialist, security professionals are always going to be dealing with some type of threats. This means that there is always a chance that a threat is going to happen because people are always figuring out different ways to break into a person’s cyberspace in order to extract the information of the business. But when it comes to the information security, there is a foundation of data security so that security professionals are going to need to prioritize all of the resources before they are able to deal with any type of threats.

Function

The fourth difference is the function of computer security versus information security. Computer security is going to deal with the threats that might or might not exist in the cyber realm. This is going to include things like protecting the personal information of the company, the social media accounts, and other information that might be important to the business. But the information security is only going to deal with the information assets and the availability, confidentiality, and integrity. In fact, this is going to be the three main goals of information security.

A Computer Security Specialist is going to be dealing with the cyber threats like a data breach, phishing, or baiting while the information security is going to deal with the threats that are related to making sure that all of the proper security protocols are going to be put in place for your company. These are going to be the main four differences between the two that you are going to notice right off the bat. In other words, one is about the security of the things that happen on the computer and the other one is about protecting the information that is on the computer.
